Fall 2019 BAE Day

Cal Poly SWE (CPSWE) hosted its bi-annual Fall Building an Engineer Day on Saturday, October 26th! This event was organized by a creative, hardworking group of CPSWE members that coordinated over 100 volunteers, 130 participants, and 13 clubs for an incredibly successful event. We embraced our theme, superheroes, by spending the day encouraging middle school students to use their super abilities to explore the many opportunities within engineering and how engineers impact the real world. The students were placed into groups of 10 to 15 and rotated through 5 hands-on labs led by our own Cal Poly engineering clubs and students. Some of these labs included making clean water filters, creating a circuit to light an LED, and competing to build a boat that can hold the most weight!

We love putting on this event each year and seeing all of the old and new faces. We were fortunate enough to increase participant numbers this year with the addition of bus transportation for schools that are further away from Cal Poly and look forward to continuing to expand our school network!
